June 20th 2023 is World Refugee Day. A day set aside by the United Nations to bring attention to the over 100 million people who have been forced to leave their homes and still searching for safety and freedom.
For many refugees, the path to freedom is complex and challenging. Most people – through no fault of their own - are displaced by war, persecution, and discrimination.
They find themselves in places where they have insecure legal status and no access to basic healthcare, work rights, and education.
For refugees like Nai, being in a new country may bring safety, but it may not bring freedom.
