Thailand has historically been a significant host country for refugees, especially from neighbouring countries like Myanmar.
Currently, Thailand does not have a formal national asylum framework. This meant that refugees and asylum-seekers are often classified as illegal migrants, making them subject to arrest, detention, and deportation.
